About

Meet Chris

I’m Chris, a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor in Lancaster, providing manual driving lessons across Lancaster, Morecambe, Heysham, Lancaster University and central Carnforth. I’ve been teaching for over 25 years and focus on calm, structured lessons that help learners build confidence as well as the skills needed to drive safely and independently.

Whether you’re starting from the beginning, returning to lessons after a break, preparing for your test or struggling with driving nerves, lessons are adapted to your experience, confidence and individual needs.

Experience you can rely on

As a driving instructor in Lancaster with over 25 years’ experience, I’ve worked with complete beginners, part-trained learners, nervous drivers, test candidates and qualified drivers looking to build confidence or develop particular skills.

My approach is calm, structured and straightforward. Lessons are planned around what you need to work on rather than following a rigid one-size-fits-all programme, with progress reviewed as you develop towards independent driving and test readiness.

25+ years’ experience

Over 25years of teaching learners at different stages, from first lessons through to test preparation and post-test development.

Calm & structured tuition

Lessons are paced around you, with clear explanations, practical goals and time to build skills and confidence properly.

Honest test readiness

You’ll get straightforward feedback about your progress and whether you’re genuinely ready for the practical test, rather than being pushed towards it too soon.

More than driving tuition

My work in the local community extends beyond driving instruction. I’ve been involved in teaching karate to children and adults for many years, helping people develop confidence, discipline and skills at their own pace.

I’ve also been involved with Lancaster’s International Youth Games for many years. In 2016, I was one of the founding members of the voluntary group formed to continue Lancaster’s involvement in the Games after the local council was no longer able to run the programme.

These roles have involved working with children, young people, families and volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds. That experience has helped shape the patient, supportive and straightforward approach I bring to driving lessons.

Specialist support for driving test nerves

I’m also a Driving Test Nerves Specialist, helping learners who find that anxiety, pressure or previous test experiences affect how they drive.

The aim isn’t to remove every feeling of nervousness. Instead, we can identify what triggers it, develop practical ways to manage the pressure and build routines that help you stay focused when it matters.

Understand the triggers

We look at the situations, thoughts or previous experiences that are contributing to your nerves rather than treating every learner in the same way.

Build practical strategies

Lessons can include realistic test-style practice, repetition and techniques to help you manage pressure and regain focus.

Prepare with confidence

You’ll know what to expect, what still needs work and how to respond if something doesn’t go perfectly on the day.

Local knowledge, personal tuition

I’m an independent instructor based in the Lancaster area, so lessons are shaped around the roads, routes and situations you’re likely to encounter locally rather than following a generic programme.

That can include everything from quieter residential roads and busy town-centre driving to rural routes, dual carriageways and the areas around Lancaster University, Morecambe, Heysham and central Carnforth.

Lessons planned around you

Your lessons are based on your current ability, confidence and priorities, with the pace adjusted as you progress.

Strong local knowledge

We can use a wide range of local roads and driving situations so you build experience that is relevant to everyday driving as well as the test.

Independent & straightforward

You deal directly with me, with clear advice about your progress, lesson planning and when you’re ready to move on.

Your car and progress tracking

Your tuition car

Lessons are currently provided in a modern manual Hyundai i20, giving you a comfortable and practical environment to learn in. The car is well suited to everything from early lessons through to independent driving and test preparation.

Progress with TotalDrive

I use TotalDrive to support your learning between lessons, helping you keep track of progress, lesson notes and the areas you’re working towards as your driving develops. This gives you a clearer view of what you’ve covered, what still needs work and what comes next.
