Terms & Conditions

Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions explain the basis on which driving tuition is provided by Lancaster Driving Lessons. They are intended to make lesson arrangements, payments, cancellations, use of the tuition car and practical test arrangements clear from the outset.

Full terms are also presented when a learner signs up through the TotalDrive app. By booking and taking lessons with Lancaster Driving Lessons, learners are expected to follow the current terms that apply to their tuition.

1. Driving Tuition

Driving tuition is provided in the Lancaster Driving Lessons tuition car. Lessons are not provided in a learner’s own vehicle.

Lessons are normally arranged as two-hour sessions unless otherwise agreed. Tuition is provided on a professional basis with lesson content and progression planned around the learner’s individual experience, ability and development.

2. Lesson Payments

Driving lessons must be paid for in accordance with the payment arrangements agreed with Lancaster Driving Lessons.

Payment may be made by bank transfer up to 24 hours before the lesson, in cash by the start of the lesson, or through TotalDrive where available. Payments made through TotalDrive may be subject to a service fee charged by the payment provider.

Lessons will not take place while payment for the lesson or any outstanding amount remains unpaid.

If a discounted block of lessons is ended before all of the hours have been used, lessons already taken will be recalculated at the normal applicable lesson rate. Any remaining balance will then be refunded.

3. Cancellations and Changes

At least 48 hours’ notice is required if a lesson needs to be cancelled or postponed.

Where sufficient notice is not given, the full lesson price may be charged.

If Lancaster Driving Lessons needs to rearrange a lesson, as much notice as reasonably possible will be given. Practical driving tests take priority over ordinary lessons, so occasionally another lesson may need to be moved in order to accommodate a learner’s test.

4. Practical Tests and Tuition Car Use

Use of the Lancaster Driving Lessons tuition car for a practical driving test is not automatic. Normally, a learner must have completed at least 10 hours of tuition with Lancaster Driving Lessons before use of the car for a test can be considered.

The car will only be made available where the learner is considered to be at an appropriate test standard and adequately prepared, and where the instructor and tuition car are available.

For a practical test at Heysham, use of the tuition car is charged as two hours at the normal lesson rate.

Practical tests at other test centres may be considered within approximately 30 miles. Any additional travel time to and from the test centre will be chargeable, agreed in advance, and capped at a maximum of three additional hours.

Learners are responsible for booking and managing their own practical driving test arrangements.

5. Eyesight and Fitness to Drive

Learners must meet the legal eyesight requirement for driving and must be able to read a modern vehicle number plate from at least 20 metres.

Learners must also ensure that they are fit to drive safely for each lesson. This includes taking account of any medical condition, disability or medication that could affect driving or the way tuition needs to be delivered.

Any relevant change that could affect safe driving or lesson arrangements should be brought to the instructor’s attention as soon as reasonably possible.

6. Learner Responsibilities

Learners are responsible for attending lessons on time and being in a suitable condition to drive safely.

They must hold a valid provisional or full driving licence appropriate to the tuition being undertaken and must comply with any legal requirements that apply to them as a driver.

Learners should tell Lancaster Driving Lessons about anything that may reasonably affect the safe or effective delivery of tuition, including relevant changes to their licence, eyesight, health, medication or driving circumstances.

Learners are also responsible for managing their own theory and practical test bookings and for ensuring that the details of any test booking are correct. Learners are also responsible for managing their own theory and practical test bookings and for ensuring that the details of any test booking are correct.

7. Instructor Responsibilities

Lancaster Driving Lessons will provide tuition on a professional basis, with lesson content and progression planned around the learner’s experience, ability and development.

If a lesson needs to be rearranged by Lancaster Driving Lessons, as much notice as reasonably possible will be given.

The instructor will make decisions about the use of the tuition car for a practical driving test based on the learner’s readiness, preparation and the availability of the instructor and vehicle.

8. Third-Party Services and Apps

Lancaster Driving Lessons may use third-party services and apps to support lesson administration, learner progress, payments and additional learning resources.

This currently includes TotalDrive for learner records, lesson/progress information and related administration, and TestBuddy where a learner is given access to the driving-test-nerves course.

Where a learner uses a third-party service, any separate terms or agreements provided by that service are between the learner and the third-party provider.

9. Complaints

Lancaster Driving Lessons aims to provide tuition and related services professionally and fairly.

If a learner has a concern or complaint, they should raise it as soon as reasonably possible so that the issue can be considered and, where appropriate, resolved.

Complaints can be made by email to info@lancasterdrivinglessons.co.uk

10. Changes to These Terms

These Terms & Conditions may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to Lancaster Driving Lessons’ services, operating arrangements, legal requirements or the third-party services used to support tuition.

The current version of the terms will apply to tuition provided at that time. Where a significant change directly affects an existing learner, Lancaster Driving Lessons will make reasonable efforts to bring that change to their attention.
